Farunga: Where Nature Meets Art,
and Every Piece Tells a Story
Farunga—what does it mean? To truly understand, we need to explore the mystical Alps of Switzerland.
In Swiss folklore, Faflunga is the spirit of the mountains, a protector of forests, ensuring balance between humans and nature. This lesser-known guardian symbolizes harmony, respect, and the delicate relationship we share with the natural world.
I’m Farzad, and when I first discovered the legend of Faflunga, I felt an immediate connection. I wanted to bring nature’s essence into my art, and Faflunga’s symbolism of balance deeply resonated with me. Through my work—whether it’s wood burning, marquetry, or the blending of materials like copper and turquoise—I strive to reflect this balance. Copper, with its warmth, and turquoise, with its cool tranquility, represent the harmony of contrasting forces.
Farunga is the union of two worlds: Farzad and Faflunga—a meeting point of craftsmanship and nature. Each piece I create tells a story, but the story doesn’t end with me. Every artwork invites viewers to find their own meaning and interpret the beauty and balance within it based on their personal journey and perspective.
In some pieces, you might even need to change your perspective. For instance, my artwork Sepandarmazgan depicts a woman facing the sun, but when rotated, reveals elements of nature like mountains and oceans. This piece honors the strong women in our lives—mothers, sisters, and partners—who are always there, providing strength, without whom our lives would be incomplete.
Though I usually don’t promote highly customized pieces, art has no limits. There are no rules saying art must be one way or another. If you have an idea to make a piece more personal, I encourage you to share your thoughts. For example, a friend once asked me to carve her sister’s name, Celine, into the Sepandarmazgan piece, adding a personal touch to the artwork.
I created this platform to connect more deeply with you and share my journey as an artist. Many have asked me why I haven’t shared my work more widely, and now feels like the right time to do so. By bringing my art here, I hope to invite you into the stories I’ve crafted and the balance I try to reflect.
As with any artist, your support helps keep the creative spirit alive and allows me to continue crafting these stories. I invite you to explore, enjoy, and if you feel inspired, to make one of these unique pieces a part of your collection.
